They wanted to call their restaurants “Big Tex”, but that name was already used by an Akron business. Instead, they chose the name “Arby’s,” based on R. B., the initials of Raffel Brothers; although often mistaken for Roast Beef.

Italian ice (and water ice, for that matter) are made in a process similar to ice cream. The ingredients are mixed together and then frozen. When you make shaved ice, the ice is frozen in cubes or blocks, shaved into very fine pieces, and then flavored with syrups and other toppings.

Salt makes ice colder because the salt prevents melted water from freezing. Melting is endothermic, so it lowers the temperature. Salt helps melt ice and prevent it from re-freezing on sidewalks and roads, yet adding salt to ice makes it colder so you can freeze ice cream.
