Tom used to beat up guys from Oak Forest.

The Oak Forest hospital was a mental institution and the city used it as a way to keep POC out because they registered on the census but were all in the institution.

35 – Tom was on an all-black basketball team. They nicknamed him Spot.

Tom talks about his history/career living in an all-black neighborhood and being asked if Black people enjoy his comedy. He got so tired of being asked that he did an album with an audience of all black people.

Tom talks about being in the first black/white comedy duo and performing the chitlin circuit and how racists (on either side) would be mad not at the guy from the race they hated but at the one of the same race for working with the race they hate. Someone put out a lit cigarette on Tim, his comedy partner’s face.

It was a woman who ended up splitting them up but they remain the best of friends.

Talking about The Tonight Show.

Lots of talk about Tom’s history and The Comedy Store and the strike.

50 – Tom talks about a friend and fellow comic who committed suicide because Mitzi Shore wouldn’t give him any time. Tom didn’t go back to the comedy store for 40+ years after that.

55 – Tom talks about how great The Comedy Store is now.

Talking Bud Friedman.

Jimmy asks Tom about the burning of The Improv and if Mitze was involved. He says she was not but he knows who did it. The gang talk more about it.

60 – Tom tells the story of Biff Manard trying to run over some comics from the picket line, including Jay Leno who pretended he was hit.

They settled the strike that night.

Tom talks about nuns in school and how the kids would admit to talking while they were out of the room and get punished with a ruler. They would rat out Tommy and he’d get worse punishment.

Five years ago he had cancer and got through it. He then was told recently that he should put his affairs in order and that he was gonna die. How much time? “Only god knows that.” – His doctor. He then told the doctor, “I’m gonna ask god for a second opinion.”

1h35m – Tom got a super rare sugery and ended up cancer free, but it could reoccur.

We’ll be right back!

Tom talks about Frank Sinatra and a party at Frank’s house with a ton of actors (IE Gregory Peck) just talking about film as well as the legend, talent, and mystique of Sinatra.

Jimmy asks if Tom was ever heckled at one of the big shows he’d do. Tom then explains how to handle a heckler in those shows. He also talks about how to do a show with an audience like that and how to win them over because they’re expecting Frank Sinatra.

Thanks Tom!
